About the Project
After finishing her debut historical novel, When I Am Ashes, released on June 15th, 2021 –
Amber Rose began some research for a new book on high profile Nazis who escaped to South America via the ratlines. She stumbled on 3 seasons of the History Channel’s “Hunting Hitler.” Based on recently declassified FBI and CIA files It seems that Hitler escaped the bunker and eventually made it to Argentina as well as Walter Rauff, Dr. Joseph Mengele, and Martin Bormann. So at first Amber Rose thought about writing an historical fiction book on Hunting Hitler, etc. But in season two, episode 8, the experts on the History Channel discovered a Nazi Cult that could have been a secret retreat for high ranking Nazis. It was called Colonia Dignidad in Parral, Chile. It was founded in 1961 by one-eyed Nazi pedophile ( Paul Schaefer) who escaped West Germany before being arrested by German authorizes for child molestation. At the time he was a self-proclaimed pastor and his flock eventually followed him to Chile.
Amber became not only fascinated by this Nazi Cult but obsessed with it. She watched videos and taught herself Spanish and German in order to read books on this topic. There are no books in English at this moment. She made a commitment to herself to write a nonfiction book on Colonia Dignity (“Colony of Dignity”). This website and blog is her first attempt to expose the dark secrets of this utopian pedophile paradise, and a torture center with electric shock punishment and psychotropic medications. In 1974 it became a torture center for dissidents of Pinochet. Very few people escaped from this barbed wire colony.
The Colony’s name has been changed to Villa Baviera and is now a tourist trap for destination weddings, award winning hotels with a swimming pool, German restaurant and bakery, horseback riding, paddle boats, and hot tubs.
Can you imagine Auschwitz being turned into a place for destination weddings, hotels, and hot tubs, etc? This Colony like Auschwitz is a memorialized land of atrocities, and locations of sacred space and sites of conscience. As a Holocaust scholar, Amber had never heard of Colonia Dignidad. She feels that the hidden story of this Torture Colony turned Dark tourist trap must be told and this will be the basis of Amber’s next book/project. Thank you for joining her.
The History
The colony was a slave labor camp, a pedophile’s paradise for the head of the colony re: young boys……. Punishment included electric shock torture to the genitals and tranquilizers were used on young boys and anyone who disagreed with the leader…Then when the coup happened in Chile in 1973….. the electroshock and tranquilizers were used on the opponents of dictator Augusto Pinochet during his reign of terror. Only one or two prisoners were released but the rest were murdered and were buried in mass graves…. later exhumed and burned and their ashes were spilled into local rivers. The colony had a huge cache of weapons, which were discovered, and 400 experimental gases, including sarin, which have not been found yet. The commune was surrounded by barbed wire. They had a lookout post/watch tower, electronic spotlights, hidden cameras, and motion detectors.
Paul Schaefer hid in the underground bunkers/tunnels in November 1996 when the Chilean government attempted to raid the colony and arrest him. Eventually, he fled to Argentina. The colony had two airstrips and a plane. In 2005 the Nazi cult leader was found hiding in Argentina and extradited to Chile. He died in a prison hospital in 2010. Some of his disciples went to jail in 2013. A relative of one of those who went to jail, opened up the colony for tourism. It is now a dark tourist trap for destination weddings, horseback riding, swimming pools, hot tubs, German restaurants…and hotels. The colony has a new name Villa Baviera too. They even have public stock shares. As far as I’m concerned, any tourist who goes there is dancing on the dead!!
